Tony serves as a Partner at Matthew Thomas Advisors, where he co-leads client engagements, shapes firm strategy, and plays an active role in expanding the firm’s presence within the business community. His deep background in valuation and forensic analysis, paired with his M&A experience, enables him to advise business owners through the most pivotal moments of their careers with clarity and confidence.
Since 2009, Tony was a valuable member of the Louis Plung & Company team. As a partner there, he worked closely with clients to address significant business challenges—from the sale or purchase of a business to suspected employee theft or the aftermath of a devastating fire. Tony is a qualified business appraiser and regularly performed valuations for estate and gift taxes, 409A stock valuations, intangible asset valuations, shareholder disputes, business transactions, and estate planning. As a certified fraud examiner, he led investigations into payroll fraud, fictitious vendors, insurance scams, cash misappropriation, and financial statement manipulation. A professional in the field since 2003, Tony’s earlier experience includes audit roles at several local accounting firms and time in the accounting department at the University of Pittsburgh.
An eager professional, Tony credits his success in the accounting field to his willingness to learn new things. In fact, it was his love of learning about how businesses operate that inspired him to pursue a career in accounting in the first place. When it comes to serving his clients, Tony strives to be very responsive—his goal is to always respond to client calls or emails as soon as possible and deliver exceptional service.
Raised in Pittsburgh, Tony loves that he gets to live in his hometown to this day. His favorite thing about the city is Picklesburgh, an annual, three-day festival devoted to all things pickle. Tony lives with his wife, Samantha, and their dog, Lola. He enjoys spending his free time watching movies, running, and hopes one day to have enough free time to learn to play golf.
