“When is the closing?”
That simple question once left Matt utterly baffled. He was in the midst of acquiring an HVAC company, and the business broker, who should have been the coordinator of the entire transaction, seemed completely in the dark about the proceedings. This encounter only reinforced Matt’s belief that many business brokers prioritize their fees over the genuine needs of their clients.
This frustration ultimately drove Matt to establish MTA Business Brokers. His unwavering conviction is that business owners deserve more than just a run-of-the-mill transactional agent. What they need is a dedicated advocate—one who will champion their interests with the same enduring commitment they’ve poured into their businesses for decades.
Matt’s professional journey uniquely prepared him for this role. He’s spent the lion’s share of his career in leadership positions across a diverse range of companies, each with revenues ranging from $5 million to $100 million. During this time, he held the CEO title at two companies, both serving large national customers, managing complex manufacturing operations, and overseeing hundreds of employees.
His venture into the world of mergers and acquisitions began during the tumultuous 2008 Financial Crisis where he was a turnaround and restructuring executive at a nationally recognized turnaround firm. He played a crucial part in breathing new life into struggling companies, orchestrating their sales, and securing crucial financing across Western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio.
Prior to founding MTA, Matt bought businesses from business brokers as part of the Transactions Team at Teamshares, Inc., the largest purchaser of small businesses in the United States. He played a pivotal role in acquiring eight companies represented by business brokers and looked at hundreds more. It was during this tenure that he became acutely aware of the pressing need for highly skilled and empathetic small business brokers—professionals willing to go the extra mile for their clients.
A Western Pennsylvania native, Matt’s roots run deep in the community. He’s a devoted family man, proud father of two grown children, and he shares his life in Allison Park with his wife Holly and their cherished boxers, Lola, and Enzo.
With MTA Business Brokers, he’s not just changing the game; he’s rewriting the playbook for how business transactions should be conducted—with expertise, commitment, and genuine care.
